This morning on the way to the bus stop, I noticed several
motorcycle police giving some line of vehicles an escort. at first I
thought it funny for a funeral to be headed west on that part of
Westheimer. As they passed, the vehicles were obviously military.
Humvees, Heavy trucks, those bend in the middle off-road trucks and
more Humvees. They almost looked funny because they all had the
European paint scheme, dark gray, as apposed to the desert paint scheme
seen in the middle east. I stopped and just watched them pass. I waited
until they were gone before continuing. I felt like it was what I
should do out of respect. I probably would not have done it for a
funeral.
The cops were doing the typical leap-frog block the intersection and
let the trucks pass thing that cops on bikes do when escorting. It
seemed like the trucks were in a hurry. The whole effort must have been
planned in advance. I've not seen the place the military vehicles come
from, but Nat tells me there are routinely convoys running around.
Several minutes after the convoy went by, the six or so motorcycles
all came back east in a group. It was impressive. They still had their
blue lights on. I assume they were Harris county. I could be wrong.
The walk in was very muddy as well. The hurricane didn't do much
damage, but id did drop some rain. The area of construction I pass
where they are putting up a much needed apartment complex is not quite
under water. Lets just say it is sticky. The boots and walking stick
carry separate clumps of heavy dense mud. I have a pare of shoos at
work I change in to. There was to be more rain this evening, but I
didn't notice any heavy stuff. Just a couple of scary clouds that
floated by.
On the walk home, there were several police cars turning off
Westheimer and nearly causing a bunch of wrecks. Someone nearly ran me
down trying to get out of one of the cop's way.
