Blog Blockquotes

I took a few minutes today and attempted to make a nice blockquote for my blog. I’ve been toying with it now for a couple days. It turns out the blockquote on my blog is part of the template and impossible to change the background color. I fought for a bit cursing the automatic realignment of the HTML every time you save anything. I then figured out the background color is in fact different. it is slightly lighter on the actual finished published blog entry. It works for someone on a good screen. My PC, which is where I have viewed the blog up to now sucks at the subtleties of web design. The work Mac however, seems to pick out the slight shift in pallet.

Part of playing with the blockquote includes putting in the right justified link at the bottom of the quote. I insiste it is in the same quote block. I have figured out the following order to operations to get the link and text to show up properly.
  • Put in a couple line breaks
  • In the middle of the line breaks, paste my text
  • Highlight the text and remove formatting
  • Put the link in the bottom of the area that will be the blockquote
  • Highlight the text and the link and click block quote
  • Highlight just the link and hit right justify.
If only it were easy. You would think with a modern blog the idea of inserting a source link would be intuitive. I mean the EU has laws talking about linking to source material. Trust me, I have to know this stuff even though I do not work in that field.

Modern wways of lying

It is all in the numbers. Someone at my work says. "It doesn't happen anywhere else." She has been misinformed.

Last year, they claimed that there were school shootings at “hundreds of schools.” It was “an almost daily occurrence” in the U.S., some said.
This was nonsense. NPR reporters looked into the 235 shootings reported by the U.S. Department of Education and were only able to confirm 11 of them.
It turned out that schools were added to the list merely because someone at a school heard there may have been a shooting. Good for NPR for checking out the Education Department’s claims.
Someone has to do the homework. Thanks NPR.

ZZZZZZIP!

Remember, it looks like it is going that fast but it's airsped is much lower due to the jet stream.
Who needs the Concorde, anyway? On Monday, somewhere over northern Pennsylvania, a Virgin Atlantic-flown Boeing 787 Dreamlinertraveling from Los Angeles to London managed to go where few commercial planes have gone before: to a speed of 801 miles per hour.
As The Washington Post brought to light, pilots and aviation nerds were a-twitter about the Boeing's speed last night, taking to journalism's favorite social medium to broadcast their delight at seeing the giant numbers appear.

More please

Elle had a function at her school this morning. She got an award for being awesome and helpful. Seriously. It is called “Breakfast of Champions” and it is an award for kids who are helpful and kind under stress. The first time I went to one of these I was worried it was one of those “everyone gets an award” kind of things, but I get it now. It is recognition for not being an asshole. This should happen more in schools and society in general.

Because the Narrative

Can you imagine if a country where the duly elected leader has the national police force and most of the employees in the government doing everything within and many things outside their power to bring him down? The watchdog refuses to bark. The people are mislead. The world waits.

If this was illegal and treasonous, why aren’t these people being arrested? The icy calm in the midst of it, where this is said by the President but no one says or does anything, not even responding to what he said, is bizarre. And there’s nothing I can see at Drudge, Instapundit or Breitbart. It’s a mystery, a complete mystery.
I am genuinely terrified that our Republic is at stake. Sure was a nice run.

Political juggling in Europe

Second place is first losers. Still, that is a huge jump. These guys might as well ware MAGA hats on the floor.

Populist Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini’s Lega is set to make massive gains according to the projection that claims the party will go from just six seats to around 27, making the party the second largest national party represented in the chamber behind German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

Blogging

Part of me wants to get back to blogging. I just figured out the Blogger app is basically dead on Android and defenately dead on iOS. No idea if there will be any updates. The web interface sucks for mobile. At least the spell checker seems to be working

Wow! I need to update the links in the sidebar. This will have to wait untill I'm on a desktop.
