Why are computers slow

Light travels at 300,000 km/s
That is 300,000,000,000 mm/s
A fight is 1/1,000,000,000 parts of a second
Thus light travels about 300 mm at 1 fight. (11.8 inches)

The speed of light is really the speed limit of everything in the universe as far as I can tell. This goes for signals sent from one part of a computer chip to another. The thinking bit of computer ships are small, but they need clean internal signals to work properly. New boxes are 4 fight. That means 80mm distance at 4 fight. Once signal quality is taken in to account, it is little wonder then why the hertz wars have subsided.

The real reason is perception. People think computers are fast for a while. As they use computers, faster systems come out. The Joneses get one. Then every one else seems to get one too. Then you look at your box and think "How did I ever get anything done on this piece of crap?" Same old story.
