It wasn't me. You can't prove anything.

New Month

It is June already. Let's see. It is Summer. Hurricane season starts officially today. I qualify for the profit sharing at work finally. That is a big one. I've never had profit sharing or whatever they call it anywhere I've worked. It is nice just to get something really. It feels like I actually work there. Not like my old company where I was a <spit> contractor. I always felt like I was five minutes from the door working at that place. That feeling makes it difficult to focus.

New crop of bills. That is every month. We have a pirate wedding to go th this month. I really need to get my web page up so I can publish the pictures and videos. It shouldn't take much. I wonder when I'll get around to it.

8 Gigs Baby!

Sweet! Pay particular attention to the SwapTotal and SwapFree numbers. It is not using swap. Swap is just there if you need it. There are a bunch of people on this box doing stuff. It has been up all week. YES!!!!

I installed the hugemem kernel on this box. It was cool watching all the numbers change between boots.

Half a gig, yawn.

Now, lets compare this to my box at a whopping half gig.

There is nearly twice as much swap space as there is RAM. When Nat went to buy her machine at Dell a couple of months ago the one thing I strongly recommended she boost on the basic system was the RAM. That is the one chunk of hardware that will make the biggest difference in over all machine performance on most tasks. She also got a nifty card reader. She was turning the house upside down looking for the proprietary cable for her camera. I reminded her of the reader. She was like "Oh, ya." She does not know how often I do stuff like that. I think I'm better at covering. Anyway, a good test for figuring out if you need more RAM is to keep an eye on your swap information. If the swap is very active, you need more RAM. My box at work needs more RAM. I'll get back to you about that.

Lunch Conversation (friday)

  • Time travel and lack there of.
  • Eve Online. They are making plans on going back to conquer some mission that kicked their ass in the past.
  • Dinner parties. As we get older we just hanging out ant eating vast quantities of good food, as apposed to when we were younger and did the same thing with bad food.
  • Every one has home stories.
    • A tiny drip of a faucet multiplied a person's water bill by about four. The more you use, the more it costs.
    • The town homes down the street from someone's place are finally getting finished after several years of just sitting there half built.
    • I told the stupid story about a house with all the wasted space and the hallway that was really another room. It was the one with two living rooms and a bar right in the middle of the house.
  • The birds aren't as bad today. We were sitting outside at Beck's. Last time we all went, the birds acted biblical.
  • We spoke of the videos from Top Gear and rally crashes on my blog. Yes!!
  • Maybe if every one takes Memorial day off next year the powers that be will just make it a holliday. (Right)

I hadn't gone out to eat for lunch in like a month so I did it today. I feel bad because Nat and I art trying to save money.
