The answer to obsession is laziness.

I wonder what would happen if a rumor started that a mold popped up that ate gold. The world does not depend on gold for the economy any longer, so they say, but what are the ramifications of gold being eaten by a mold or fungus? I listened to Dr Karl talk about Texas. He was on the subject of earthquakes in Dallas. If there have been earthquakes in Dallas, I haven’t heard anything about it on the news. They are in Australia and England. It freaks me out when they talk about Texas like it is on another planet.

I got that extra huge battery. I like the amount of charge, but I hate how freaking heavy my phone is with it attached. It is a brick. It was nice not having my case on the phone. I forgot how much the case ruins the sound quality. I cannot use the back facing camera because the plastic lense over the sensor is double thick and tinted with some soft of anti glare or something. The automatic dimmer doesn’t work any more. It just kills me to make videos with it in that case. I guess I’ll go back and forth for a while.

Seems the only way to get your message out there these days it to stack the bodies like cordwood on a bunch of internet videos. Another view.

I had a 15 minute discussion with one of the other developers about moving to Ubuntu on their primary workstation. I’ve already done this. I went from Red Hat to Ubuntu. They are going from Windows to Ubuntu. They want to make a backup of their drive on an external drive first. When I took my plunge, I only made a backup of my user folder. I uttered the words “Backups are for wimps.” I was joking of course. I back things up. Not as often or as thoroughly as I should I’m sure.

I want to get the bug for vlogging back. I’ve been working a lot lately and have lost the drive a bit. I still want to do it, but it doesn’t seem to give me that shot of satisfaction so much as it use dto. I’m not sure , but I think all the jerking around YouTube has done with its contributor's incomes lately has put me off my free contributions.

I was listening to Old Time Radio on Shoutcast (undr the talk heading). Orson Welles was on three channels at the same time in different shows. Probably decades apart. It was weird. I really like those old time radio shows. I heard “ ... from beyond the grave.” in his voice.

The UK is terrified of deflation. Something completely new is going on. The economy of the banks is getting better due to international investment. However, employment in the country is hurting. People are being squeezed by fewer jobs, immigration, and businesses not having their products and services paid for by people who are worried about their jobs. It is a pretty vicious cycle.

Only the banks are happy. They are rolling in cash. Foreign investment and the local government are pouring money in to the banking system. The banks charge for both every action and every inaction. They then lobby the government to take the money of people who died without direct heir. They take risks and assume the taxpayers will bail them out on the short end.

Bill got a new Jeep. it is pretty darned nice. He gave us a ride in this morning. My mom used to have Jeeps. The new ones have much better amenities.

Getting myself to write or shoot a video has been like pulling teeth. It isn’t like I put that much effort in to it. Something snapped over the vacation. Now I just don’t want put it down.

I hate this extended battery I got. It is awesome that I have the ability to go 3 days between charges. I can slam the snot out of the phone for two solid days and still have juice. However, It just feels like a brick in my hand. I am also paranoid without the otterbox. As much as I freaking hate the otterbox. I cannot believe this phone is still working. It has been almost a year and a half or so. I just want the best of all the potential worlds here .Nothing big.

People in parts of Europe just might be waking up after the Parice attacks from last week. Not sure if the momentum will stick. Let’s hope. They keep making the same points over and over. There is a bunch of arguing over money in the podcast as well. They do come back to this point a couple times.

Europe has deflation. Governments don’t like deflation. Inflation is a way for the people who print the money to put a tax on the economy itself. Deflation means it actually costs the people who print the money to just sit there and print money.

I listened to Adam Carolla show recently where they spoke about other people they had worked with. There were some interesting stories. Lots of assholes in show business apparently.

Working tomorrow (Saturday). Haven’t worked a Saturday in quite some time. We are under a crunch time. It is annoying, but one of those things you do to make your life and the lives of those who are around you better. No point in fighting it. Help row the boat. i didn’t have particular plans anyway. Some people did. Several folks are canceling plans to come in and help row the boat. We may grumble a bit between drum beats.

We use VMs for testing at work. I can tell you that they are slow. There must be a fundamental issue with VMs when it comes to accessing or acting like you are accessing hardware. VMs have their place and make a lot of things faster. Not driver testing. Still, when you are struggling to find hardware for testing, they are awesome.

I just noticed the little speaker on the tab of Chromium in Ubuntu Linux that I’m using that indicates sound being played. It at least tells you which tab has the annoying advertisment playing so you can kill it or close the tab. In this case, I’m listening to a podcast on the web in that tab. Nice touch in any case.

I had to turn off the word completion on Libreoffice. It is one of those features that sounds great until you use it. Then it turns out to be more of a pain in the ass than it was ever worth. I found this out a long time ago, but it seems it takes me a while every time I have to use a new copy of Libreoffice or OpenOffice to switch it off.

People keep saying things like “You can go to a public library to get on a computer to apply for all this online stuff.” But, you have to register for that access at my local library. They ask for an address, phone number and email. I’m not sure if there is a human who can override the requirements in order to let someone make all that stuff happen. If someone is too poor to have a home address, they are going to have to produce a big pile of self drive to make the first step of getting online to register for

I watched a video this morning of a French police officer getting caught out on a street in Paris. The officer gets shot and falls to the ground. The terrorist jogged up and shot the officer in the head. He then jogged back to the car and they drove off. it made me think of video games. So often people take a far too nonchalant view on death in video games.

Germany says if Greece doesn't impose austerity until it chokes, they will get thrown out of the Euro Zone. I’ll believe it when it happens. Europe can be trusted to sit on their hands until something just pushes them off. They have a long fuse. I swear , Europe has just been letting things fall apart until the world economy gets over the whole depression recession thing it is going through. The trouble is, this is just the new normal.

I love it. People are screaming for the taxes on gas to be jacked up right now. We have had a huge drop in prices. Some people call it a subsidy on gas by not putting a higher tax on gas. The only people saying we should drop the gas tax and put an emissions tax on vehicles are people who no longer work in the public sector.

I need to get back in to videoing things every day. Just shoot the bullshit. You don’t have to use any of it, but if you have it you have the choice of using it or not.

Spaceships will simply print parts they need as they need them. This will include wings and landing gear. It will include engine pods, even if the engine itself needs to be purchased and the mounts printed around it.

I just listened to a NPR money show about a guy who wanted investors to give him money to open burger joints in the Ukraine. It was painful to listen to the Q and A. The show was all about western money supporting the rest of the world becoming more like the west. The Chinese and Indians are not investing outside their own countries as much. Best quote of the day “War with Russia is pretty much a deal breaker.”

I wrote like one blog entry and shot maybe two videos the whole two weeks I was off. Bad vlogger/blogger. I don’t care. it isn't like I make money off this stuff. Still. It pleases me to do it. This little exercise in retirement tells me I’m screwed if I don’t have a job to get me out of the house. I’ve always planned on working until I drop. Maybe that is the best thing for me.

Target Trip

I ran over to Target at lunch today to get a set of earphones. Mine did the one ear fail thing. they did last a while before dying without notice. I don’t even remember yanking them or stepping on them. Anyway. The new earbuds i wanted were $6.99 each and locked to the shelf behind a plastic anti theft contraption. I had to ask for help. I hate that.

The stock guy had to radio the manager or maybe she was another stocker. She walked over and used these magic pliers to free the headphones. I got 2 pair because I want to deal with this as little as possible.  I did notice one of the cases had been pried open. it makes me ill.

The last set of earbuds I got at the same Target did not warrant Fort Knox. That may have been over a year ago. Not sure what happened to cause the change.

The earbuds don’t suck. Which is a surprise. They were the cheapest ones I could find at the moment. Normally, Target makes me buy a $9.99 set for no good reason. Notice I got a couple sets this time. The difference is quality and longevity. Ask me again in a couple weeks if they have lasted.

There was no one in the place. I want at lunch time. The store was a ghost town except for a couple old woman who insisted on blocking the double wide aisles to talk, nay, yell on their phones.

i have a sinus thing going on. My head hurts. I’ve taken some medicine for it, but it is only taking the edge off. It feels like something is pressing against the back of my skull when I cough, sneeze or yawn. I’m not exaggerating. I mean, it feels like something is selling up and pressing against the inside of the back of my skull. That cannot be good.

I’m going to write a book “A book.” There. That was awesome. I’m good at this. Now, to sell it.

Today is the last day of a 2 week vacation. I am so ready to go back to work. it is better to go on vacation in my opinion when pretty much everyone is on vacation. I don’t have the ear of either being missed or not being missed any longer. I’m 45 and jus don’t have it in me to sweat that sort of thing. Paranoia takes up a lot of energy. I’ve been keeping tabs on the progress at work. They are still working, but with a skeleton crew more or less. Most people tooks some sort of time off over the break.
