Here is what I think is going on.
The little gray people have been monitoring us for melena. Perhaps, they manipulated the monkey and pig DNA that is us. That is another theory.
These manipulative bastards have been pushing the Earth toward one global government because they need that in order to "invite" us to their Federation of Planets, or Interstellar Conglomeration of Trading entities. They have been thwarted at every turn.
We pesky humans have lovved our freedom. So, for the longest time, the U. S. was selected as a beacon of hope (for them, not us) to take over the world with Democracy. That didn't pan out because what is the fun in being free if you don't have 9/10 of the world being oppressed?
Now, they have decided to just silence all opposition to a single one party government that they have strong manipulative ties to already. They will use every communication and cloaked IP addresses to tear us apart at the will to live. Then they will allow us to negotiate our way in to their control.
Why don't they just aim a mega-laser at us and paint "submit" on the moon? Bureaucracy and environmental studies of course. Every single government that is strong enough to last until mortality is conquered, will lead to forever politicians who need to make up a forever reason to stay in office.
I for one welcome our new Bureaucratic Overlords. Same as the old Bureaucratic Overlords, only now with warp drive. Travel faster than the speed of light to wait in line for a permit.
