Censorship
Many in the middle east in general are very upset over a film that jabs at their religion. That is their decision. People on this side of the world are calling for censorship and forcing the internet to better censor itself. In this case, it is YouTube.
If you block YouTube you need to go ahead and block the whole internet, because the internet is freedom. When it stops being freedom, people will stop using it. When people stop using it, it will die. Things will never be the same again. you cannot go backwards from any point in time. you can only go forward. Which path will you choose?
If what you had to say were not offensive, you would not need a right to say it. How boring a world would it be if everyone agreed on everything?
I have to be careful on this one. People are dying. In Libya several U. S. diplomatic staff were killed. This video and the failure of the U. S. to “apologize” for it has been blamed by some. I’ve heard the attack was planned and I’ve heard the opposite. At the moment, it depends on to whom you listen.
On a less important note, YouTube channels are getting pulled over this video. I am the first guy in line complaining about people preaching hate and needing to be pulled from YouTube. One thing that pisses me off is the speed at which this one is happening. According to some of the blogs I read, known terrorist recruitment videos on YouTube can take months to pull down.
Why is this time different? Western ideals of freedom of speech are slamming head on with the Islamic ideal of not permitting anyone to say anything bad about their prophet. That is it. For years the blogosphere has been a buzz that these two ideals are incompatible. Some say Islam is incompatible with democracy because of this feature of each.
If you do not have the freedom to speak your mind, you cannot convince others to vote for you or for the people you want in control. Without the freedom to speak your mind, there is no democracy. I don’t know the argument for Islam refusing to allow any dissenting views of their prophet.

It rained this morning on the way in. One of these days I want to record my morning commute in the rain. I have a water resistant pouch thing for my camera. I wouldn’t trust it in the pool, but the rain would not get in on the first try. I had dry feed because I walked on the opposite side of the street in traffic instead of the grass. However, my legs got wet from sideways rain. Not too bad. I dried off by the time I went to the doctor’s office for my consult on gout.
The new laptops we are getting have a screwy touch pad. The surface is textured with bumps. I have no idea why. I mean, it is designed supposedly to allow you to move your finger across the surface all day long. This thing feels a bit like worn down sandpaper. It isn’t that it will take your fingerprints off, it is a tactile comfort thing. It feels funny. Not sure how long it will take to get used to.

Notes:
Just encrypted my home folder on my personal laptop. Everything is encrypted these days. If you don’t herar from me over the next couple days it is because I have screwed myself to the point I cannot use my laptop and I’m drunk and or passed out in lament.
A buddy of mine just complained that Apple made a deliberate decision to make connecting to an NFS serve a pain. I must not say anything bad about MACs. I must not say anything bad about MACs. I must not say anything bad about Macs to him, right now. Must wait. Must wait.
Apple iPhone 5
People are pissed at Apple. These are things I’ve heard.
I do not now nor have I in the past used an iPhone or any Apple phone for anything other than a paperweight. I am not a fanboy. I do not like Apple and therefore do not use their products when I can avoid it. I do not have a problem with others using the devices except when they expect me to bend over backwards to make my systems compatible with theirs instead of accepting the fact that they atre the outlyer and should act acordingly.
- You need a whole new connector set for your existing devices. The connectors are not compatible. Has Apple not heard of USB?
- No video out. I would not be bothered by this, but I know people who are not upgrading until there is a video solution.
- IOS 6 makes it much easier for IT departments to lock down your phone if it is on their network. When I read about this feature, it sounds more like parental controls.
- No simultaneous voice and data on many carriers.
- Some people get charged an early adopter fee if they want the damn thing on day one.

Peter Commings was fined and banned from working for a financial services in London. He claims he did what everyone else was doing. It was the way business was done. Some wonder why he is not in jail. Others wonder why the financial authorities bothered. They interviewed some guy who tried to blow the whistle on the back in question several years ago. He basically had two fingers worth of comment to the industry.
Did you know that a knuckle out peace sign in the UK is like flipping someone the bird in the U. S.? Hence the statement above “Two fingers worth of comment”.
Listening to union negotiations on a BBC audiocast makes me want to vomit. The union people sound like communists and the employers (government in this case) sounds like a dictatorship. The two are not mutually exclusive if I’m honest.
Then there is that moment when you grab a drink expecting a cool slug of soda and get a cool slug of unsweetened coffee from earlier that morning. I drink my coffee black at work. I’m used to the taste, even after it is past its sell by minute. Still, it is the expectation that gets me. I nearly spit it across the room when this kind of thing happens and I don’t expect it.
One of the Dell 1 U systems we have got stuck today. That is, the top (lid) got stuck on the box. I had to use a screwdriver to pry the lid along the path that is needs in order to take the lid off. This is the worse one so far. I remember that I had to do something like this when first setting up some of the systems. I don’t think we are doing anything wrong. I think it is just out of tolerance.

Yes, yes that freedom we have in this country really is pissing off people in other countries. They can’t handle our freedom I say to these people that they have no right to take our freedom, even with violence. We will have to deal with the fallout of our freedom. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. That means freedom is not free. Freedom takes work. Killing our citizens because you don’t like what someone says is insanity and should be condemned on its own, regardless of the subject matter.
I haven’t seen this video/movie/film. I bet it is reprehensible. I’m not defending the video, This is not the point. I’m defending the freedom to say something. If what you have to say were not controversial, you would not need a right to say it.
Should YouTube take the video (and copies) down? That is up to YouTube. YouTube is a business and has to make the decisions based on their own needs. YouTube should not be forced to put up any video they determine is harmful in some way to their business or morals. People condemn YouTube when crap like this shows up, but no one condemns the phone company when someone uses a phone for crime. This is a double standard.

I tried to shoot a time lapse of the sun rise this morning. The clouds blocked the sunrise and the building was fogged over so badly that the image out the window was completely obscured. There was a really cool lightning show going on, but my camera was taking one frame every second so most of that was missed I’m sure. I’ll have to review it this evening to find out of there is any salvageable footage.
One of the people in an interview described military drones as “... being used to kill brown people in optional wars.” He also said the attitude about these things would be different if people on their main street caffe were being blown up because some other government you don’t agree with wanted someone dead. I have to agree on both points.

Justice, or apology?
| President Obama vowed to punish those responsible for the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. "We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done," he said. GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney also condemned the attack on the consulate in Libya and repeated his criticism of the Obama administration's response to the earlier attack on the U.S. Embassy in Egypt, calling an embassy statement "akin to an apology" that was "disgraceful."

I haven’t heard the whole statement from Obama. I have heard Obama apologize for the U. S. several times. I’ve seen him bow before dictators and punish our allies for standing up for themselves.

Al Qaeda gets it Mr President. (emphasis mine)

London terror analysts speculated that Stevens was the victim of a targeted al Qaeda revenge attack. The assault "came to avenge the death of Abu Yaya al-Libi, al Qaeda's second in command killed a few months ago," the analysts said.

Economics and the EU
Greece is trying to bill Germany for damages done during World War II. They are that desperate for money I suppose. This is serious, yet I cannot stop giggling about it. A judge is making a decision soon to decide whether the constitution in Germany allows it to bail out other countries directly. I guess as opposed to doing it though Brussels and the EU.
The only choices I see are A) bail out Greece entirely or B) let Greece fail as a state, then go in and clean up the mess. Either way really sucks. Either way is a loss on the face of Europe as an entity.
German people do not want to hand Greece a blank check. No one does. Things have not changed there. Once Greece is off the top of the list of cluster fucks, then comes Spain and other countries. Greece is being treated like a guinea pig for this whole EU thing. Is it even possible to throw a country out of Europe? Heck, even France is in real fiscal trouble.
One funny thing coming out of all this is to listen to very high level government officials sound like middle school children when confronting one another on the radio talk shows. They talk over each other and have to be told to stop interrupting. I have a feeling that some of them have been quietly cut off in some of the interviews. At least it is entertaining.
“You are doing everything behind closed doors.” says one.
“If we tell people what we are doing the speculators will eat us alive.” says the other.
Then someone will try to sit down and explain what is going on. It will make as much sense as the tax code and people will complain loudly. Some profesor from a prestigious university will come on and try to make heads or tails of things. Then people will complain even more loudly.
The circus conductor who started asking all the questions will then thank everyone for coming on the show. The moment they leave this person will sound happier when talking about a mass murder five minutes later.

Iran has doubled the number of centrifuges since this whole inspection request thing has happened. This from NPR radio. The IAEA is the one complaining that diplomacy is not working and the only answer coming out of the world stage is more diplomacy. Isn’t that the definition of insanity?

I tried to shoot a timelapse this morning at work. I ended up just shooting a video and I’ll play with it later. That Toshiba has a time lapse setting somewhere. I couldn’t find it. I needed to not be in the room I was in for very long. I was using an empty office so the camera wouldn’t freak anyone out. It is supposed to rain today. You will find the video on the blog if it didn’t suck.
Baby asperen are 80mg. Low dose adult asperen are 81mg and up. I know this because those are the labels and descriptions of two bottles of asperen I have at the house.
Allix Jones comes on and says (from memory) “Eleven years after the 100% false flag 9/11 attacks ...” and I switched him off. It doesn’t matter even if you were right Allix. I can’t take you today. This was yesterday’s broadcast.

U. S. Embassy overrun in Cairo
| Angry protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo today and hauled down its U.S. flags, replacing them with black flags with Islamic emblems. The incident prompted U.S. security guards to fire off a volley of warning shots as a large crowd gathered outside, apparently upset about the production of a Dutch film thought to insult the prophet Mohammed, said CNN producer Mohammed Fahmy, who was on the scene. An Embassy operator told CNN that the facility had been cleared of diplomatic personnel earlier in the day, ahead of the apparent threat, while Egyptian riot police were called to help secure the Embassy walls.

Finding a printer port on WS2008
For goodness sake. It takes ten minutes to find the printer ports on Windows Server 2008. If you don’t do this every day, you have to follow the following setps

’m going to have to start taking the gout medicine. My ankle hurts today. I wonder if my wrist is sore because of overuse or if it is gout. My back, don’t get me started on my back. I’m old. I have been avoiding a real every day for the rest of my life medicine for my whole life. It may be time.
I tend not to put up blog entries on the weekend. I just want to pass out on the weekends and accomplish nothing. This is a bad thing. I want to be the guy who gets cool stuff done on the weekend. At least, I want to be the guy who gets something done on the weekends. Not sure what will motivate me to get all the chores done. What is that magic device?
Adam came by today and gave me some of his special coffee. He brings up awesome coffee to work. I almost hate it when he does this because it ruins me for the swill we have in the lunchroom. I’ve had worse, trust me. The god offal crude at my old old employer was worse. Can’t wait to find out what we will have next year.
