The powers that be are calling the Fort Hood shooting workplace violence. This is so they don’t have to call it terrorism. I suppose they could do the same to what happened on September 11, 2001. All the people in both buildings were at work .The flight crew was at work. Most of the people on the plane were there for work. It was a commuter flight between the coasts. Think of all the problems that would solve. ... Assholes. They are just a pack of cowards who fear the paperwork of fixing something. Paperwork that they invented.
Military and police mashup. The Drug Cartels in Mexico and elsewhere are driving the U. S. government to move toward the warrior cop mentality. The Drug Cartels are entities that cannot be dealt with with tools like treaties and political pressure. They call this insurgent kind of warfare 4th Generation Warfare.

It blows my mind that people like traveling. I mean, even for work there are people who enjoy disrupting their lives and hauling off for points elsewhere just for a short time. I must just be a home body.
Walked by someone’s desk this afternoon. They asked me about making ID tags with a logo in MS Word. It turns out after page 3, the logos vanish. We sat down with it and it turns out the picture of the logo was massive. Shrunk it down (resized the image in an editor to use many fewer pixels) and Word started treating it much better. I hate Word. She told me “I’m so happy you walked by Kelly.” Glad I could help.

I’m not sure what to think about Newsroom. The guy keeps saying he is a conservative and that he is a member of the Republican party. Yet, he spouts liberal bullshit half the time. The show is really about the relationships.
Online time will top over TV time this year.

Is our current president too noble to fight, or a coward? Because he ain’t putting up a fight against the parts of this human civilization trying to take us out.
Gmail has the wrong language in and only in the email composer on one machine in Firefox. That is rather specific. I believe the language is Portuguese. The spell checker seems to work everywhere else. Gmail is set to English. Firefox on that box is set to English. No idea what is going on.
I’m finding myself hating some fictional audiocasts. Not because of anything the audiocast people have done besides their story selection. I think we are in the era of mountains listening to fictional audiocasts. Great. I want blood and guts speculative fiction, fantasy, crime fiction and things like alternative history. Emphasis on the blood and guts..
One of the economists say we are indeed in a recovery. The crap employment numbers are simply the new normal. The median income in the U. S. will drop soon for the first time ever.
I was looking at a Sony phone because it is water resistant. I just cannot bring myself to buy a Sony phone. I’ve always wound up pissed at Sony products for doing stupid shit. Why can’t Samsung make a good water resistant phone?
My leg hurts. Not bad. I did a bunch of knee bends spraying for bugs Sunday. My legs are both sore. My right leg is extra sore. My inner thigh feels like I pulled something, only not so bad. The rest of my thighs are now feeling much better
There is nothing wrong with sexting between consenting of age people. If you trust someone with a dirty picture and they fuck you over, that is on both of you. Leaving a trail of dirty texts floating about the either will probably come back and bit you in the ass somehow. With adulthood, comes responsibility. Know what you are getting in to. Know who you are trusting.
Wreck this morning
Link
The wreck on the way in this morning was pretty bad. No, it wasn't us. I’m not sure what happened, but I can speculate wildly without any real evidence. I fear some people died in that wreck. At least people were hurt so I do not want to make light of the situation. I can help but run through what happened in my head. That means you get to sit through it on the blog.

We were headed east on Westminster. In the turn lane on our side of the road was a cement truck that had been hit head on by a full size pickup. It looked like the cement truck was sitting still and the pickup had crossed over at speed and hit solidly the front of the cement truck. Both vehicles were badly damaged. The front of the pickup was raised above the massive bumper of the cement truck and had hit the grill, folding it in. The front of the pickup was all but swallowed by the front of the cement truck.
Another car was on the westbound side of Westheimer. It had been t-boned badly. The position it was in made it look like it was headed south on Dairy ashford and had been hit by the pickup. The pickup then went in to the front of the cement truck.
I have no way of knowing who, but someone appears to have run the red light or at least jumped it. The truck had to be going more than a few miles per hour judging only on the damage done to the t-boned vehicle. That doesn’t tell me who ran the light.
The other option for what might have happened involves unprotected left terns and I cannot wrap my head around the movements of vehicles well enough to write down my speculation.
Nat had a wreck (no injuries thank God) only last week and the scene upset her. That is understandable.
It turns out sa friend of ours has a store right there. The security camera on their store might have captured the wreck. That might help the investigation. It also might mean I can find out what happened. I’m highly curious. Maybe it is a sick fascination, but it is there nonetheless.

Pat Condell added me back on GPlus. Not sure what to think of that. I don’t agree with everything he has to say, but I’m glad he is out there saying it.
Night isn’t the sun’s fault.
Banks are starting to feel the pinch by social finance or peer to peer lending. Between that and bitcoins, the world is saying that they want to be in control of their destiny more so than some arbitrary government. I say arbitrary only because most people do not choose where they are born and thus their birth country.
The job participation rate is now as low as it was in 1979. That means the number of people working vs the number of people not working who could work is the same now as in 1979.
Lunch conversation today was dominated by NFL players who messed up. I read somewhere that NFL players are arrested less often than the general population. I’d have to go look that up again to prove it. Everyone seemed very impressed with some kid who as either stupid as a post, or being crafty for some reason they didn’t know. Something about selling autographs.

This was originally titled something like “Lie to your friends about what you vote for.” That was horrifying. I’m bad at selecting titles. The title above will appeal to people more than the one I started with, but I’m told the first one would appeal to search engines more than the second. What is one to do? Go with your heart, or was it conscience?

After the car wreck, I’m looking into dash cams. They sell them in convenience stores in Russia. The insurance situation there is bat shit crazy. It would be nice to have footage of someone acting a fool before crashing.
Zinga games is having issues. They are the Farmville people. I hate those games because they have claimed my wife as a victim. How are they not making money? Facebook is fanning the flames of developers to get some competition in the market.
Windows NT is 20 years old. The Windows NT kernel is still in use today.
If today were the middle day of my life, what day would I die? 2013-07-31. That means I would kick the bucket at 89 or so. Not sure what I think of that.
The people doing the ice cream social thing today have to get building visitor badges. Funny, the delivery people don’t have to. Probably because they will start dropping off at the front door if they have to comply. They don’t have time to deal with that nonsense.
I got some kind of pineapple sherbet ice cream hybrid with nuts and Lucky Charm marshmallows.

Car wreck
We had a car accident. Everyone is OK. The car is pretty messed up and we got a rent car for a bit. Our insurance is going through the roof after this. What are you going to do? No medical bills though. That is the good news.
One thing that pisses me off is the car is not totaled. I have to be honest. I hoped it would have been ruined to the point it was not worth fixing. This might have gotten us a pay out for a new car. The old car is eight years old and starting to show it. The damage assessment so far is not nearly enough for that I’m told. I have not seen the car yet.
Nat rented the Toyota Scion, however it is spelled. It is basically a hatchback Carola. I like it. It has as much room as a Rav 4, but much better mileage. Nat didn’t like the old ones because they were boxy. The new ones look far more pill shaped. Not too shabby on the room, but not as big as the Rav 4. I don’t care what the brochures say. Still, that might be our next vehicle.
I’ll try to take some pics.

White House scandals again
I forgot some (in red). There are so many it is difficult to remember them all.
- Using the IRS to squash political enemies.
- Benghazi
- Comments about the “fake” scandals pissing off the mother of one of the men who died defending the consulate.
- Repeated comments about ongoing cases in trial in public. This is an abuse of office.
- Obama’s friend at some university who had issue setting off his own alarm.
- Comments inciting racial divide during the Zimmerman case
- NSA overstepping the bounds of freedom and the constitution and acting like it is just all in a day’s work.
- Our government promising to support countries and then leaving everyone high and dry.
- Egypt and Syria are both basically The Bay of Pigs all over again.
- The “red line” for Iran is apparently a mushroom cloud over Tel Aviv. Then again, maybe not.
- Delaying parts of Obama Care without authority by edict (executive order) not to enforce parts of the rules set forth by congress.
- Fast and furious, or hand the drug runners guns to make guns look bad.
- The estimates run as high as hundreds of Mexican citizens dead by these weapons.
- At least one American law enforcement member know killed with one of these weapons.
Notes
Sincerity is everything. If you can fake that you have won.
Listened to the BBC 5 Live for much of the morning. They are six hours in front of us. It is interesting listening to the interviews. I do miss mayo running things. New guy is pretty good.
The British Yellow Pages is a publicly traded company. The stock is through the floor. They didn’t take advantage of moving it to the internet. Everyone uses Google and the like for finding things.
The current pope basically says (paraphrasing) “God watches what you do, not what you feel.” To me this means you don’t have to like it. You just have to do it.
Spending my evening snacking around the world. I’m crossing oceans and continents. The days where I squeezed telling around the world are gone. This is just boring.
