Don’t want to Jinx it
Friday was a good day. Work was not easy. I learned some new procedures. Some things got done. I severed my beliefs from reality. It went well. The world is still out to get me, but it is okay somehow. I made it home alive. The family is OK. None of the idiots running for president is all that far out front. The foundation of the universe is built on the will of a dreaming god.
Saturday was pretty good. I watched Inside Out. It made me cry and it was a good thing. The show is about crying being a good thing. It was about growing up. I hear someone put together just the outside scenes of the show and it still made a good movie. That is just how that production company works.
I’m turning 50 in a couple years. For the first time in my life I’m looking forward to a year. This frightens me. I have never looked forward to a birthday or getting older in my life. It has always not been all that bad. Now I’m terrified of jinxing it by looking forward to getting older.
My eye doctor, when I was 21, told me I was good to go on the vision front until I was 50. Strange things happen to eyes after age 50. Still, I look forward to the half century mark. I mean, shit happens. Shit happens whether you jinxed it or not. Shit happens to good people and shit happens to bad people. Shit happens to people who never had shit happen to them.
I still don’t want to jinx it. Do I let myself feel OK about it?
As we age, bad things seem to happen more often when it comes to health. That is just accepted. I have a history of fearing things long before they hit me. When I was younger, I feared going bald. Now I embrace it. I never feared going gray, but it is happening right now and it is no big deal. It really is distinguished.
Real illnesses of course are different. Few folks look upon a health scare as a right of passage. That is what i fear this time. The prediction by my old eye doctor haunts me. I must not let fear guide my life. I must take the reins and put my will in to it. We must all do the best we can with what we have and then do it again, and again.

Elle's new(ish) phone
I gave Elle my old Samsung Galaxy S4. It was messing up for me, but a factory reset usually fixed it for a while so I still wonder if it was software. Hopefully she has better luck. She loves it. “I like having a bigger phone.” We have to go by T-Mobile to get a smaller SIM card.
Elle also found out one of the awesome things about the cloud. She signed in to Google on her new (used) phone and all her apps and settings started setting themselves up. She was impressed. I plan on keeping her old phone around for a backup or a 911 phone.
She has been pretty good about using the phone. We haven’t caught her doing stupid things much. She plays her games and texts her friends.
She will want a new case. The case I had was an Otterbox that was once waterproof. It is huge and clunky. Not the kind of case young teenage girls like or so I’m told.
Elle said she wanted an iPhone of course. Her rich friends at private school (thanks Bill and Ted, yall rock for keeping her in private school, Thank you.) have iPhones and probably rave about them. If you have money, iPhones are the way to go. Everything costs money. The only easy way to do anything on an Apple device is to pay someone to do it for you. It seems that DIY is deliberately hindered to make more money. I dislike this greatly.

The Red Pen
Keyboards are more important today than any pen. The shelf we have at work has notepads and pens available on it, but they time interval we allow between purchases does not keep us in proper black and blue pens. By the time people start to get worried enough to replenish our supplies comes to fruition, we are down to the bottom of the barrel. The seven or eight boxes of red pens that remains behind holding down the fort mocks everyone who wants to use a tree pad to take notes.
Red is the color of mistakes, warnings, trouble, negative amounts of money, notes from a teacher of boss. In my case, my old boss insisted on my printing out a web page and he would mark it up with a red pen for me to apply the corrections and then ... print it out again to be marked up.
Of course, I wind up with a handful of leftover pens. Many are odd brands or red. it isn’t that our office spends a lot of money on pens. They turn up with crates of store brands. I do not remember the last time I liked the pens we had on our supply shelf. The shelf happens to be next to the restrooms so I get a chance to notice our lack of proper color pens a couple times a day.
If you do find yourself with a couple black pens at this point in the office supply cycle, it is a good idea to grab a couple red pens and swap the ink cartridges. Put a piece of tape or something on the pens for your own convenience. Then guard them with your career because it might be a while before the supply lines find their way back to your oasis of booty known as the supply shelf.
Firefox and Chrome on Linux
I’m having some issues with everything about Linux. I have become far less tolerant of bullshit issues on Linux than I used to be. I used to consider that the OS and software was free so leeway should be given. This is changing for me. I am getting bug intolerant as I age. I believe the scientific term is cantankerous.

- Mouse over works. This is the kind of thing you don't think about until it is broken.

- High contrast sucks.
- Leave it open over night and it runs like crap the next day even if you kill it and restart.
Chrome Works
- High contrast is awesome.
Chrome Broken
- High contrast has scrolling issue that makes it really annoying.
- Mouse over is jacked. You can kind of fight and make it work. Sort of.
It seemed like more. I’m sure I’ll come up with more to complain about. Give me a bit.

End of times
Man, the end is nye. I went to Taco Bell for lunch. There was a pretty long line and I noticed a couple things.
- The line moved quickly inside and out.
- The prices have gone up. Every combo was $9 to $12
- The accuracy still sucks. The guy in front of me didn’t get his food until after I left. It took me a while to get 3 soft tacos.
- The food quality has not improved much if at all.
- The teller was shilling for reviews online.
- There was what sounded like a fire alarm going off in the back room that you could only hear walking round the outside of the building toward the back.
- They got rid of the walkway across the drive through that we used to use to go to the Seafood shop.

The system scours police data, public records, social media, and public Internet data to provide a "threat level" of a potential suspect or residency. The software is part of a broader trend of military counterinsurgency tools and algorithms being repurposed for civil use. While these tools can help police manage actively dangerous situations, providing valuable intel when responding to calls, the analysis also raises serious civil liberties questions both in privacy (where the data comes from) and accuracy (is the data valid, was the analysis done correctly). Also worrying are the long term ramifications to such technologies: there has already been some speculation about "citizen scores," could a criminal threat score be something similar? At very least, as Matt Cagle of the ACLU noted, "there needs to be a meaningful debate... there needs to be safeguards and oversight."
Free range parenting approval
I really hope this all pans out. I believe that kids should be out of sight of adults at least some of the time while they are growing up. I mean, do we really need them to find freedom at first day of college?

But Clinton is far from out of the woods, according to a congressional source who is deeply involved in the multiple investigations of Clinton. This source, who also spoke only on condition of anonymity, pointed to the hundreds of Clinton emails that contained classified information.
“Her problem is the sheer volume of emails that were deemed classified,” said this source. “Her first defense was that she didn’t send any classified information in her emails. But that claim has been clearly rendered false because so many of the emails were later marked classified.”
As the Department of State has released the Clinton emails she provided after leaving office, more than a thousand were marked classified after being reviewed prior to their public release. So what about Clinton’s subsequent distinction that she sent no information in her emails that was “marked classified” when it was sent?
“The volume matters because a reasonable person knows somebody who like the Secretary of State, who is allowed herself to classify materials, who has handled it for 25 years or more, at some point the law says you are responsible for recognizing classified material when you see it. That gets to the negligence issue,” the issue said.
Every couple of days I read something else about how this investigation is moving forward. It really makes me angry that Clinton will go down for failing to follow proper email procedure rather than getting so many people killed to further her political career and agenda.

There is a cultural component that, as we see time and time again, the culture-deciders cover-up again and again. Oh, they understand well enough that culture plays a role, as can be seen from their constant chatter about a "Rape Culture" and the need to tell men not to rape.
But then, suddenly, when it becomes politically incorrect to note cultural contributions, they stop talking about rape culture altogether and kind of change the subject.
Anyway, as heavily euphemized as it is, the Politico article is a watershed moment, the time when even the forces of coercive political correctness scramble for more politically-correct reasons to agree that we need to slow down on immigration.Meanwhile, in Germany, they're prosecuting a bunch of people in the wake of the sex-mob attacks.
